Board care

Hand wash only, never submerge in water!

Australian hardwood is very dense and not very porous. To avoid bacteria, it’s important that you wash your board after use.  Wipe the board with hot soapy water, rinse it and just wipe it dry with a clean dish towel. Always dry your board standing on its edge so both sides dry at the same time. It will may warp if you lay it down, as one side will dry faster than the other. Apply a thin coat of Wood Wax and store in a dry area.

Important:
1. Never submerge in water
2. Do not place in dishwasher or in a microwave

Disinfect & deodorize using vinegar

Following simple washing instructions will keep your boards safe and healthy. If you want to go one step further, keep a spray bottle of vinegar handy to disinfect & deodorize your board. Acetic acid (white vinegar) is an excellent disinfectant for E. coli, Salmonella and other household bacteria. Spray vinegar on the wood cutting board, let sit for a few minutes and wipe it with a damp warm cloth. Dry standing up.

Oil or wax treatment

We recommend treating all boards frequently in order to repel food particles and prevent stains and cracks from happening. It’s best to treat the board at least once a month and twice a month if used often.

It’s important to make sure that the surface is clean and dry before applying any oils or waxes.

We recommend using our “ wood wax “ which is a combination of food safe mineral oil and natural Australian beeswax, you would have received a complimentary sample with your purchase, when you run out hop on to our shop page for a resupply.

Avoid vegetable or nut-based oil

Do not use vegetable or nut-based oil on your boards for the simple reason that it will spoil and become rancid. This will leave your wooden board with an unpleasant smell that will also noticeably change the taste of the food you are preparing. Nut-based oils may cause allergic reactions.

All our boards get a food safe mineral oil “bath”, and two coats of “wood wax” before they leave us.
